Another Puff Quilt!

My Sister-in-law is having a baby in a few weeks, so of course I had to make him something!  He will be my first nephew... no nieces yet.  We are so excited for him to come.  He and my boys will be about 8-9 months apart.   I have to admit that for one teensy second I was sad that they aren't having a girl, because I have lots of cute girly fabric, but oh well.  I got over it quickly.  I will keep saving that girly fabric, though...

I asked the hubby if I should make a real quilt, a rag quilt, or a puff quilt, like THIS one I made awhile ago.

He told me to make the puff quilt.  We use ours all the time and it is really cute.  I feel better about putting my boys on it now that they are sitting up.  That way when they tip over, they have a softer landing. :)

Luckily, I had just enough charm squares left over from the last puff quilt to make one more (I only had to cut two extras from my stash).  Everything was all cut and ready to go since I originally planned to make another one of these for my twins.  But I decided we don't really need two, so this will be for their cousin!  It looks really similar, although not exactly the same.

I used THIS pattern from Honey Bear Lane.  Compared to my last puff quilt, I think I stuffed the puffs a little fuller this time and I like it.  I also decided to sew the binding on completely by machine.  The last one was bound by hand and I think I like the hand binding better for this type of quilt, because the edges are so puffy, but the machine binding still works.
I hope the new Mama (and baby) likes it!

Puff Quilt!

For my birthday this year, my mother-in-law wanted me to buy myself some fabric and I decided I just had to have this Pure fabric (I especially love the pieces with words on them).  I wanted to make something with colors that would work for a boy.  So I bought some fabric and set it aside, waiting for inspiration to strike.
Well, it did!  I discovered HoneyBear Lane's Puff Quilt and I KNEW that was what I wanted to do!  (Check out her website - she has lots of cute stuff!)  At the time, Heidi had a series of free tutorials on how to make the puff quilt.  I guess her puff quilt became so popular that she decided to make it into a pattern to sell, so it is not free anymore.  Sad.  Lucky for me, I downloaded the tutorials while I still could - Wahoo!  This quilt was a lot of fun to make!  I want to make more in the future - I just need someone to make them for!
Isn't it great?  Don't you just love the fabrics?  I do.

p.s. Sorry about the crappy pictures.  I'm just not home in the middle of the day when the sun is shining.

For the Love!

VALENTINES DAY IS ON MONDAY!! Kinda sneaked up on me this year.  But that's okay.  The hubby and I don't really get that into Valentines Day.  We have a tradition... we buy ourselves a new movie on Valentines Day and watch it at home on the couch.  And sometimes I get chocolate, but that's not really a once a year thing for me...  Flowers?  Nah - I can't really keep ANYTHING alive for longer than a day.  Although I wouldn't complain if the hubby was thoughtful enough to get me some every once in a while.
However, this year I did decide I needed to make something to remind us what month it is...
It took a little while to get to it, because I wouldn't let myself work on it until I finished making these:
Whew!
Then I made this (don't worry, I finished it last week so I'm not TOO far behind):

AND I tried binding BY HAND this time around!  I think it looks better - hopefully I did it right.  I washed this little thing because I also tried raw edge applique and I wanted the edge of the heart to fray a little, so it looks a little bumpy.  But it was really quick to make.
Now.  What should I do for March?

On a side note, I guess I did get an early Valentines Day gift this year.  Wanna see it?  Well, okay.  But only because I love it so much:
Isn't it pretty!  And it's ALL MINE!!  YAY!

Wordless Wednesday

Okay, so it's not Wednesday.  And it's not wordless.  I'll be more on the ball next time.  But I've been seein' a lot of people do this lately and I thought it might be a good motivator for me.  I might feel like I have nothing to blog about, but I can sure take a picture of something every once in awhile and stick it on here, right?  I might as well show a little bit of the process, rather than just the product.  What with school and everything (Parent Teacher Conferences are NEXT WEEK!!! GAH!!), I don't get a lot of sewing done, but I am ALWAYS in the middle of somethin'.  Can you guess what this is gonna be????
